John-Paul Danko – Lead Photographer
John-Paul always wanted to be an artist, but somehow, ended up an engineer – graduating from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2001 with a degree in civil engineering.
With his engineering background, John-Paul brings a rare fusion of artistic vision and technical expertise to his photography.
Among photographers, he is in a unique position to understand, relate to, and execute complex industrial, scientific and architectural commissions. He has years of experience navigating factories, warehouses and construction sites safely, and he is able to complete his photography commissions without disruption to the factory floor.
John-Paul has always tried to maintain a balance between his commissioned work and personal projects – adventure sports and of course adventure photography have been a life long passion for him.
In fact, John-Paul met Dawn planting trees in the forests of northern British Columbia and Alberta, where he was nicknamed “the Tourist” for is penchant of taking photographs instead of planting trees.
John-Paul can change a lens mid-rappel, swap out a memory card while treading water, or use a camel as a light stand – but by far his most challenging project is photographing his kids as they grow.
“WOW! That is such a cool picture” is John-Paul’s favorite compliment.
Dawn Danko – Assistant Photographer & Studio Manager
Dawn graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2000 with an honours degree in science. In 2003 she earned a second degree from the University of Toronto along with a diploma in Radiation Therapy from the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences. She is currently completing her Masters of Science in Higher Education at Walden University.
Dawn doesn’t do anything by half measures and her photography reflects her meticulous attention to detail.
Dawn brings her deep understanding of science, healthcare and medicine to her photography. She has a unique ability to transform what are often complex or abstract scientific and medical concepts into gripping, dynamic photographs.
She has a fabulous rapport with her photography subjects and an uncanny ability to manage the myriad of personalities involved in commercial photography sessions.
Dawn will often assist on a an entire day’s photography session wearing a skirt and heels, put the kids to bed, polish off a bottle of Riesling at the computer while finishing the photo editing, and send out the invoices before bed.
